Peterborough United could be set to earn additional cash from two separate transfers if the relevant Championship clubs were to get promoted.
Darren Ferguson’s side are often busy in the transfer market, attempting to sign young players with a view to selling them on for a profit in the future. One of the players that fits that bill is midfielder Jack Taylor. The Irishman signed for Posh from National League side Barnet in 2020.
Taylor went on to play almost 150 matches for the Cambridgeshire outfit, before being sold to newly promoted Ipswich Town last summer. That transfer was for a reported £1.5 million, however, that fee could still yet increase. The Tractor Boys have had an astonishing first season back in the second tier, as they currently sit top of the league with only six games left to play. Posh fans may now be hoping Kieran Mckenna’s side can make it to the Premier League, due to a promotion clause added to the Taylor deal.
“We have a couple of hundred grand in a promotion bonus for Jack Taylor who we sold to them, so fingers crossed for that!” Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony stated on TalkSport this morning.
The shrewd owner also added that it would be beneficial for Coventry City to get promoted through the play-offs. The West-Midlands outfit currently sit seventh in the division, four points off Norwich City in sixth.
“I then hope Coventry go up via the play-offs because we just sold them a player in January and have lots of nice add-ons if they’re in the Premier League!”
Posh did sell winger Ephron Mason-Clark to the Sky Blues in January, however, as well as the bonuses seemingly included in the deal, the transfer also included a loan back to the League One club until the end of the season.
Peterborough will be hoping that they can push into the second tier themselves as they look to secure their spot in the League One play-offs.

MacAnthony and his club have a history of smart signings and large sales and these two cases simply follow that trend. The inclusion of future add-ons such as this is also a smart way of dealing in the transfer market.
The prospect of additional cash regardless of this season’s outcome for Ferguson’s men, adds an extra layer of security for the club’s finances.
