Newcastle United’s stand-in skipper Dan Burn has hailed Alexander Isak as the “complete forward” after his contributions this week fired the Magpies back into contention for Europe.

Isak took his tally to three goals in two matches and 19 for the season overall after scoring a wonderful opener against Everton. The strike came on the back of two ice-cool penalties to help beat West Ham and now the £63million man has Fulham in his sights.

Burn, speaking to Premier League productions, said there were no better strikers around than Isak, he commented: “Nah, I don’t think so.

“Alex is the complete striker – he has a bit of everything. He is such a big player for us – he can create something out of nothing.”

Burn also quipped that Isak’s movement into an offside position had cost him what would have been a crucial second goal against Everton. And he dropped an incentive Isak’s way for the clash at Craven Cottage, he said: “I heard my disallowed goal was a whisker offside mind, so that’s twice Alex has done us now – he owes me one!”

Newcastle head to the capital this weekend sitting in eighth position and just behind West Ham. Eddie Howe’s team will be desperate to claim back into a Europa Conference League slot.

Looking at the situation and the season in general, Burn said: “It’s been a tough season with injuries but to say we’re around the European places shows the character we have. Nobody’s smashing form so it’s down to momentum at the end for the European race.”
