Sean Dyche maintains his knowledge of winning football is “pretty good” despite his Everton side going 13 games without a victory.
The Toffees haven’t landed three points since they saw off Burnley at Turf Moor in mid-December. As a result, they remain firmly rooted in a relegation scrap with Dyche aiming to lead the Merseysiders to survival despite another year of poor results.
Dyche previously consolidated Burnley as a top-flight outfit for several years before their eventual relegation. At Everton, he’s only won 30 per cent of the 55 games he’s been in charge of, yet the 52-year-old has defended his IQ when it comes to producing a winning outfit.
He said: “My knowledge is pretty good of the stats and facts of Premier League football and what brings winning football. I have not corrected it so far in this run, but I think that I have a depth of knowledge that suggests when we do things right and I play the way that we should be playing then we can correct that and that’s what we will be looking to.
Everton, who have copped a points deduction, which has since been reduced, are currently sat 16th – four points above the relegation zone. They face one of their main survival rivals in Burnley at the weekend, but Dyche insists his team are performing much like they were when they were enjoying a winning run.
“It doesn’t seem two minutes ago that we were winning four on the trot, scoring freely and keeping clean sheets,” he said. “It’s just as if by magic, you are on a tough run and everyone is making a noise about it. That’s life in football. Correcting that is the key. We showed very strong signs at Newcastle of correcting that. We’ve got to continue with that thought process and performance level.”
