Seahawks agree to contract extension with GM John SchneiderThis week, the Seahawks added former Panthers receiver, Laviska Shenault Jr., during free agency.

“Versatility,” Schneider said on what they like about Shenault. “He’s just that guy who you can give the ball to. As soon as you give that guy the ball, he’s incredibly explosive. Last year he split time between the running back room and receiving room and right now he’s going to be in our receiving room.”

Shenault has experience as a kick returner and with the new kickoff rule the Seahawks will look to use him there this season.

“We’re still working through the kickoff rule and the tweaks to it and our strategy of it. I’ve been talking to Jay Harbaugh and [Devin] Fitzsimmons about it, it’s going to be unique. It’s a game changing play,” Schneider said. “That’s one of the primary reasons we signed Laviska. We’d been talking to him, he’s a great returner, a powerful dude, like Dee [Eskridge] and has that explosive feel to him.”

And besides the kickoff rule change, Schneider does know that there is still work to be done on the offensive line. “That’s not an area that’s being ignored,” he said.

Between now, the draft and training camp, the team still has time to address the need on the offensive line.Seahawks agree to contract extension with GM John Schneider

“We’re not playing games tomorrow,” Schneider said. “So we’ll continue to work through our post-draft trades in summer, all that kind of stuff.”

Schneider added that the team has been working on filling one of the holes with a veteran guy. “We’ve had some guys in, we’ll continue to do that. We’ve had some veteran guys, guys that have started games. (You) put another veteran in that group and then hope to address things in the draft as much as we possibly can.”
