The Baltimore Orioles put together a comeback win on Wednesday against Kansas City and in doing so they did something they haven’t done in 21 years.
The Baltimore Orioles had to wait a few hours to wrap up their series with the Kansas City Royals due to heavy rain in the area.
The wait was worth it. The Orioles did something they haven’t done in decade.
James McCann’s two RBI walk-off single lifted the Orioles to a 4-3 victory over the Royals, pushing them to 4-2 for the season.
It was the Orioles’ second walk-off win in three games, as Baltimore beat Kansas City, 6-4, on Monday. In that game, Jordan Westburg hit a two-run home run to lift the Orioles to the victory.
With that, the Orioles have two walk-off victories in their first six games. That’s the first time that’s happened since 2003. In fact, the Orioles have only done that two other times in franchise history, per MLB.com — 2001 and 1964.
Thanks to the weather, the Orioles played in front of a small crowd for the end of their homestand, with an announced crowd of 11,488. Kansas City pitcher Cole Ragans helped limit the Orioles to one hit through the first seven innings.
