Brendan Rodgers is thrilled Mikey Johnston is going down a storm in the Championship.

And the Celtic boss is convinced the wide man will breeze back into Parkhead in the summer. Johnston has enjoyed a stunning loan spell at West Brom, hitting seven goals for the Baggies and picking up the Championship Player of the Month gong for March. West Brom have all but cemented a place in the play-offs for promotion to the Premier League and Rodgers is looking forward to welcoming the 24-year-old Ireland attacker back to Parkhead.

He insisted: “I have said before he is one of the best talents to come out this academy. He is quick, he is direct and he can score goals. So for him to go there and get that award – against some outstanding players in the Championship – tells you how well he has done. “Hopefully he can continue with that and come back to Celtic in the summer feeling really energised and full of confidence and be ready to make an impact. I am absolutely delighted for him because he is a player I always rated highly. But he is 24 and really needed games. He needed to get out and play – so what he is showing and demonstrating is no surprise.”
