According to Fabrizio Romano, Lazio have exercised their purchase option to make Mattéo Gunedouzi’s (25) loan move from Marseille permanent. The Serie A club will pay an initial €13m for the France international midfielder with a further €5m in add-ons bringing the total value of the deal to €18m.
The 25-year-old joined the Rome-based club on loan from OM in the summer of 2023. Guendouzi’s deal included an optional purchase clause which Lazio have now decided to trigger. Marseille will be glad to have cashed in on the midfielder with his contract at the Stade Vélodrome set to expire in 2025.
Finding his feet
Guendouzi was forced out of OM with former coach Marcelino not seeing him as part of his longer-term plans at the Europa League semi-finalists. Ironically, he would only last 7 games in charge of Les Phocéens. Despite being somewhat forced out of Marseille, he has undoubtedly gone from strength to strength in an impressive start to life in Italy. The former Arsenal midfielder has 3 goals and 3 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions this season.
