Wilson offers PSG injury update, why Howe won’t solely focus on Mbappe & Gordon handed England boost
Callum Wilson has spoken about his hamstring injury, Eddie Howe has been asked about Kylian Mbappe at St James’ Park and Anthony Gordon may finally get his England wish after impressive Newcastle United form
Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson will play no part against Paris Saint-Germain in Wednesday evening due to an ongoing minor hamstring issue. Eddie Howe admitted the striker’s involvement looked unlikely but the man himself has now spoke of his frustration at having to watch the historic European clash from the St James’ Park stands.
“It’s a good mood, there’s a calm atmosphere at the moment,” Wilson told his Footballer’s Football Podcast. “The lads are confident in themselves after some good results. It’s a good game to have at home to test ourselves against one of the best in France.
“For me personally, I’m not going to make the game. It is what it is, there’ll be many more.” Wilson’s absence paves the way for Alexander Isak to lead the line, with Anthony Gordon and Miguel Almiron expected to join him in attack.

Mbappe dominates press conference
As to be expected when a superstar comes to town, Kylian Mbappe was the main focus as Eddie Howe and Kieran Trippier answered questions at St James’ Park on Tuesday. That interest only grew as the Frenchman made his way out onto the hallowed turf as he struggled in the chilly Tyneside conditions.
While all eyes from the outside are focused on the World Cup winner, Howe is refusing to have his attention taken away from PSG’s other impressive stars. After all, Mbappe was joined by attacking counterparts Marco Asensio, Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos as he stepped out in Newcastle.
