Everton fan Jamie Taylor trolled his colleague – BBC Radio Ulster presenter and Liverpool supporter Connor Phillips – live on air after the Merseyside derby.
Taylor told his counterpart that he had recorded an exclusive interview with the band Green Day for use on the show.
However, the clip was in fact of the rock group’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong – an Everton supporter himself – congratulating the Toffees on their Merseyside derby victory.
Taylor then took to social media to poke further fun at Phillips, posting a clip of the presenter’s reaction on X with the caption: “Sorry Connor Phillips, you’ve taken the brunt of my Kopite revenge. 15 years of post-derby day trauma in the making. UTFT!!!”
Everton revel in their long-awaited victory
Everton fans are clearly continuing to revel in what has been a long-awaited victory over their rivals at Goodison Park.
The Toffees’ most recent victory over Liverpool came in 2021, when they secured a 2-0 win at Anfield under Carlo Ancelotti – their first since a 1-0 triumph in 1999 – with Richarlison scoring an early opener before a late Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty clinched the three points.
However, it is not since 17 October 2010 that the blue half of Merseyside has been able to celebrate a derby victory on home soil. Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta scored in that win – also by a 2-0 scoreline – as a side featuring the likes of Tim Howard, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines overcame a Liverpool team including Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.
