When Hull City and third-placed Ipswich Town play tomorrow in the Championship, the latter will have the opportunity to use two of their strongest attacking players once more.

One of Leeds United’s direct promotion rivals have been handed a double injury boost for the Championship run-in. Ipswich Town head coach Kieran McKenna has revealed winger Wes Burns and striker George Hirst will be part of the travelling squad for tomorrow’s encounter at play-off chasing Hull City.

Burns has not figured since picking up a knock in their 6-0 hammering of Sheffield Wednesday last month while Hirst has yet to feature in 2024 because of a hamstring problem. “They’ve both trained with the group this week,” said McKenna. “That’s a big positive for us.”

Hirst, the son of former England striker David, has missed 18 matches through injury. McKenna said: “He’s been out for quite a long period, but he’s a fit boy. He’s trained for a good period of time now and we’re not going to save anything back in the last week.

“He’s like all the other players, raring to have a big part to play in the last week. It’s good to have him back, and I think the contribution right across the squad is going to be really important with three games in a short space of time.

“We’re going to need different people to step up at different times. That’s why we’ve hopefully got a strong squad here.”
