Dan Burn was among those to have scored as Newcastle United put Paris Saint-Germain to the sword on Wednesday night.
The local lad, who was released by Newcastle as a boy, scored a towering header to put Eddie Howe’s side 2-0 up against PSG, albeit the goal was only awarded after what felt like an eternity of a VAR check.
Like Sean Longstaff, it is fantastic to see a player with such deep-rooted connections to the club make a big impact on the grandest stage.
Burn’s goal came after something of a goalmouth scramble and the defender has now shared why he was angry with a teammate in the build-up to it.

Indeed, the header stemmed from a period of sustained pressure from Newcastle.
Kieran Trippier floated in a free-kick before Jamaal Lascelles’ header was almost deflected into the goal by a PSG player. Bruno Guimaraes then picked up the ball and shot from a tight angle, before chipping in the subsequent rebound for Burn to score.
It was that decision to shoot first time that annoyed Burn so much, it seems.
“I was so angry at Bruno for shooting, it comes back and soon as it got hung in the air I just went for it,” he told TNT Sports.
Burn had every right to be annoyed!
It was a really strange decision by Guimaraes – who hardly put a foot wrong all night – to attempt to shoot from a tight angle.
Still, the quality of the cross on the immediate rebound more than made up for it. Burn’s determination to attack the header made it all the sweeter too.
Luckily, everything worked out in the end. Newcastle are alive in this season’s Champions League.
