Milwaukee Brewers, Robert GasserDuring the first game of this four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Milwaukee Brewers took a crushing 7-1 win over their divisional rival. The Brewers offense was extraordinary for game two as they scored 11 runs on 12 hits taking an exhilarating 11-2 victory over the Cardinals. Brewers prospect Robert Gasser made his debut on the mound and became the fifth pitcher in franchise history to accomplish a very impressive feat.

The Brewers continue to sit a half-game above the Chicago Cubs for that number-one spot in the NL Central standings. With the loss, the Cardinals hold a 15-23 record. St. Louis is eight games behind Milwaukee for first place in the division. If the Cardinals get swept by the Brewers, they’ll have a record of ten games under .500.

During the second at-bat of the game, Brewers starting pitcher Robert Gasser recorded his first Major League strikeout against Cardinals left fielder Lars Nootbaar. Both teams would be scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins lined a two-run single into left field.

In the next inning, Brewers second baseman Brice Turang bolted an RBI double down the left-field line. A few batters later, Brewers designated hitter Christian Yelich bunted down an RBI single to give Milwaukee a 4-0 lead. Shortstop Willy Adames extended the Brewers lead to 6-0 when he blasted a two-run double into right field. The rally continued during the fifth inning for Milwaukee as first baseman Rhys Hoskins hit his second RBI single of the day,

Cardinals designated hitter Alec Burleson brought home St. Louis’ first run of the game during the top of the seventh inning when he belted an RBI double into right-center field. In the bottom half of the seventh, Brewers right fielder Sal Frelick drilled a two-run single past Cardinals second baseman José Fermín, giving Milwaukee a great 9-1 lead. Two batters later, Brewers left fielder Jake Bauers smashed a two-run triple into center field. Cardinals second baseman Nolan Gorman hit a solo home run to right field, but this one run would not be enough as the damage had already been done as the Milwaukee Brewers would take an extraordinary 11-2 win.
