Fabrizio Romano drops fresh update on Everton ace Jarrad Branthwaite joining Manchester United in 2024

Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Manchester United’s interest in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite for a potential 2024 transfer.

21-year-old defender Branthwaite has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park after impressing on loan at PSV Eindhoven last season and then breaking into Sean Dyche’s side this year.

Man City have been linked with interest but it’s the Red Devils who are said to be most interested, however Romano wrote on his Daily Briefing Substack (5 October) that he isn’t a priority option for Erik Ten Hag’s side heading in to January or next summer.

“The Everton defender [Jarrad Branthwaite] has been the subject of rumours linking him with Manchester United, but while they want a CB in 2024 my understanding remains that the three main names being considered are Antonio Silva, Jean-Clair Todibo and Edmond Tapsoba,” he said.

“Of course it’s normal to see a lot of players linked, but I have no further news since my update earlier this week.”

Thankful

Branthwaite is a top, top defender and there is no doubt that in a better side he would be getting more credit for his abilities on the ball than he does now.

He has all the attributes and qualities to really step up into European football and shine at the highest level, but he is still young and there is plenty of time for him to make those steps.everton

For now he should focus the most on playing regularly and he will play very often with us, so it’s no shock that we’re trying to get him to sign a new long-term deal as it would also protect his value.

If he isn’t going to be their first-choice option then he would be better served to stay where he is and playing often until he’s deemed good enough to be that player, and we need him to be part of our squad considering our current situation in the table.

It’s one to keep an eye on for sure because the links aren’t going away, but hopefully Everton can get something sorted to not find ourselves in trouble.
