Player considering Newcastle exit to be closer to girlfriend – “I’m waiting for a good opportunity”
Loris Karius, the Newcastle goalkeeper, has indicated an interest in moving to Italy to be closer to his partner and child.
The German was signed as a backup last year while Martin Dubravka was on loan, but he stayed beyond the initial six-month deal and is now under contract until next summer.
Despite signing a new contract, Karius concedes that leaving is a ‘potential alternative’ that he will ‘explore’ in order to reunite him with his girlfriend, who will be presenting Serie A games. He maintains that a ‘good opportunity’ must present itself, implying that he will not relocate just to be closer to loved ones.
When asked if a move to Italy was on the cards, the former Liverpool man responded as follows:
“It is a possible solution that I am considering.” It is possible that it will occur in the future.
“As a child, I watched Inter, Milan, and Juventus games on TV, but I don’t want to make decisions solely based on Aria (daughter) and Diletta (partner).” I’m still looking for a solid job.
Of course, we (Karius, his partner, and his child) are distant most of the time.” We communicate on the phone a lot and use FaceTime to conduct video calls. Diletta pays me a visit as soon as she is able, although it is not easy.
“Our plan is to be together for the rest of our lives.”
It wouldn’t be a significant loss for Newcastle, who already have Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, and Mark Gillespie, but it’d be difficult to find a more experienced and capable second or third choice.
