New York is coming off a thrilling finish to its three-game series against the Rays over the weekend, with a 10-6 win pushing just a hair away from retaking first place in the American League East. New York (27-15, .643) is less than half a game back from the Baltimore Orioles (26-14, .650).
The Yankees offense exploded with a barrage of home runs on Sunday to secure the win. Jose Trevino crushed a pair of home runs during the game, including a two-run shot in the third and a solo drive in the eighth. Luis Gil also secured six scoreless inning for New York, which proved pivotal as the Rays quickly racked up runs on Yankees reliever Caleb Ferguson.
Now the Yankees stay on the road against Minnesota. The Twins are 24-16 and second in the AL Central division. They took a 2-1 series win over the Blue Jays last weekend.
