Danny Rohl has been one of the standout bosses from the 2023-24 Championship campaign, with many arguing that he should have been in the conversation for Manager of the Year.
Despite being a relative unknown at the time of his appointment at Sheffield Wednesday last October, the German was able to galvanise a squad down on its luck after a dramatic summer which initially saw Darren Moore depart after promotion, before a dismal run under his predecessor Xisco Munoz.
Since Rohl’s first game in charge on October 21, Wednesday have been the ninth-best performing side across the entire second tier, amassing 50 of their eventual 53 points in that timeframe, confirming their safety with a 2-0 victory at Sunderland on the final day of the season.

This record, unsurprisingly, has made Rohl a wanted man, with recent links to both Sunderland and Hull City. And whilst neither look set to poach the 35-year-old, recent revealings may ease any future concerns that the German will jump ship in a swift manner.
Carlton Palmer praises Dejphon Chansiri amid Danny Rohl, £5m reveal
One man who is extremely passionate regarding the goings on at Hillsborough is former Owls and England midfielder Carlton Palmer.
The pundit has been speaking to FLW, urging the club hierarchy to fully support the young boss after recent reports regarding the fees it would take to see him leave the Steel City emerged, and he has also dished out some rare praise for Dejphon Chansiri.
“It is reported that Danny Rohl has a £5 million compensation clause, as well as £10 million if he was to leave Sheffield Wednesday with his coaching team,” Palmer said when speaking to Football League World.
“That’s going to frighten off a lot of teams, so the likes of Sunderland, who have been expressing an interest in signing Danny Rohl, are not going to be able to pay that type of money.”
“Dejphon Chansiri must have anticipated that he was going to do well, and that was a smart move to put that in place.
“Now what he has to do is give him the tools to do the job. I’d like to see Sheffield Wednesday kick on and do an Ipswich by being in and around the play-offs next season, and I think that’s possible with a few more additions.”
“Danny’s asking for an additional member of staff. I don’t think he’s asking the world to Chansiri, but if Chansiri can give a little bit and so can Rohl, not every manager and chairman get what they want, its just a balance.
