LucasDETROIT – The Detroit Tigers have shuffled a couple of waiver claims at the bottom of their 40-man roster.

The Tigers claimed left-handed pitcher Easton Lucas off waivers from the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. Right-hander pitcher Ty Adcock, who the Tigers claimed last month from the Seattle Mariners, was designated for assignment.

Lucas was optioned to Triple-A Toledo.

The 27-year-old was selected out of Pepperdine University in the 14th round of the 2019 draft by the Miami Marlins.

Only seven months later, Lucas was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for infielder Jonathan Villar. The Orioles sent him to Oakland last summer for reliever Shintaro Fujinami.

Lucas has pitched briefly in the big leagues for Oakland in 2023 and 2024, allowing 12 earned runs on 18 hits in 10 1/3 innings. He’s struck out 13 and walked seven

He throws a four-seam and cut fastball, as well as a slider and change-up. His fastball has ticked up a bit in 2024, averaging 94.2 mph.Lucas

Adcock, 27, was drafted by the Mariners in the eighth round out of Elon University in 2019.

He made his big-league debut last year, posting a 3.45 ERA in 15 2/3 innings. He’s primarily a two-pitch pitcher, according to Baseball Savant, with a 96 mph fastball that was his most effective pitch. All four home runs he allowed last year came on his slider.
