The New York Mets’ challenging season took a turn for the worse on Saturday with a crushing defeat against the Miami Marlins.
In a game played at loanDepot Park in Miami, the Mets squandered a 9-5 lead despite having closer Edwin Diaz on the mound.
The Marlins mounted a dramatic comeback, scoring four runs in the ninth inning to tie the game and then securing a 10-9 victory with a walk-off hit in the tenth.
Mets announcer Keith Hernandez, reflecting on the game, described the loss as a “kick in the teeth” for the struggling team.

Commenting on the loss, fellow announcer Gary Cohen emphasized the frustration of seeing the game slip away.
“For a Mets team that has been trying to pay attention to detail, get themselves righted, take better at-bats, play better in the field, this one got away from them in devastating fashion,” Cohen remarked.
Hernandez added, “It’s doubled down too, really, with Diaz with the four-run lead. And you’ve got to be concerned; a three-run home run you gave up to tie the ballgame… and then to lose in this fashion. It is a kick in the teeth.”
The Mets’ record dropped to 20-25 after the loss, placing them 12 games behind the division leader and only six games ahead of the last-place Marlins.
