Rangers 2024 Breakout Pitcher Dealt Troublesome Injury Update

The Rangers are dealing with yet another injury. The ball club just cannot seem to catch a break. Starting pitcher Jon Gray is the latest player to land on the injured list.

On Thursday, the Rangers announced that Gray was placed on the 15-day IL with a right groin strain. The move is retroactive to Wednesday. In corresponding moves, the Rangers selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Jesus Tinoco from Triple-A and transferred left-handed pitcher Cody Bradford to the 60-day IL.

Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, Nathan Eovaldi and Tyler Mahle are just a few of the Rangers pitchers who are currently on the injured list. Both Josh Jung and Wyatt Langford are injured offensively. An inability to stay healthy has been an unfortunate talking point for this Rangers ball club.

The team has struggled mightily in recent action. Additionally, the Rangers are now three games under .500. Texas is still in second place in the American League West division, but they need to get back on track.2022 in review: Jon Gray - Lone Star Ball

Losing Gray is a difficult blow. The veteran right-handed hurler was in the middle of a breakout campaign.

Jon Gray’s Breakout Season Paused Due To Injury

Gray has pitched at the MLB level since 2015. He made his debut with the Colorado Rockies, and he would remain in Colorado until 2021. Despite pitching a significant number of his games at hitter-friendly Coors Field, Gray displayed signs of potential but struggled to find consistency with the team.

He ended up with the Rangers in 2021. He immediately saw improved results but still was not considered a star. Nevertheless, the Rangers were happy to have a reliable veteran in the rotation.2022 in review: Jon Gray - Lone Star Ball

In 2024, though, Gray has looked like an ace on the mound. Through 11 games, Gray has pitched to a sparkling 2.21 ERA to go along with 56 strikeouts. The hope is that Gray will return as soon as possible and pick things up where he left off.
