Enzo Maresca’s move to Chelsea may have just taken another step closer to being completed, with Leicester City already being linked with potential replacements.
The Italian has emerged as the clear favourite to take over from Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge this summer. Chelsea’s interest comes after he led Leicester to the Championship title in his first full season in management.
Maresca is said to have a release clause of around £9million in his contract at the King Power Stadium, with the clause increasing following promotion to the Premier League. Latest reports claim that the Foxes have now given permission for the manager to speak with Chelsea over the role.
It seems that the newly-promoted club are preparing for life without the Italian. The Daily Mail late last week named West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan as a possible target for Leicester should they lose Maresca, his name has now also been mentioned by talkSPORT’s Jason Bourne.
The fact that Leicester are starting to look at possible replacement targets suggests that the club believes that a move could be close. Leicester have also been linked with former Chelsea manager Grham Potter during previous manager searches, with him still without a job he could potentially become an option for the club’s owners to look at.
The job at Leicester was Maresca’s second in club management after a previous ill-fated spell with Italian side Parma. He arrived at the King Power Stadium last summer having spent time as Pep Guardiola’s number two at Manchester City, helping the club to win the treble during the 2022/23 campaign.
