It is common knowledge in the world of football that Everton are not blessed with much money to spend in the transfer market this summer. Therefore, they will have to be creative to secure brand-new signings at Goodison Park.

On the face of it, Phillips almost represents the perfect move for the Toffees as they will be able to sign a proven international midfielder without having to fork out a big transfer fee or pay the majority of his wages.

Manchester City would likely be much keener on agreeing a permanent move to get Phillips off of their books this summer, but it feels unlikely any side will foot the bill needed to buy out his contract that runs for another four years.
