The San Diego Padres have gone through a rough stretch lately with injuries to their pitching staff. They placed both Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove on the Injured List recently, putting a big dent in the starting rotation.
However, the Padres are calling up No. 5 prospect Adam Mazur, and he will make his first MLB start on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels, per a report from Robert Murray.
“The San Diego Padres are calling up pitching prospect Adam Mazur, according to a source familiar with the situation. Mazur, the Padres’ No. 5 prospect, is expected to start on Tuesday.”
The injuries to Darvish and Musgrove aren’t good news for San Diego, although it appears that Darvish will be back on the mound sooner than later. Darvish has a 4-3 record with a 3.20 ERA and Musgrove has a 5.66 ERA with a 3-4 record, so he has struggled this season.
The latest update regarding Musgrove certainly wasn’t encouraging, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune:
“Musgrove was also placed on the IL Saturday with a recurrence of the triceps tendinitis that sidelined him for 20 days in May. Where Musgrove rested for just a few days before feeling better and resuming throwing last time, the Padres plan to shut him down entirely for at least the next two weeks. If all goes well, he would then need a couple weeks to build back up.”
