NewcastleEverton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted there is going to be interest in Newcastle United stars Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes this summer.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed sources have told him it’s going to be a “buyers’ market” ahead of the transfer window opening later thi

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Isak and Guimaraes after the Magpies missed out on a European spot despite their seventh-place finish.

Newcastle are determined to keep hold of Isak after Football Insider revealed the club are set to hold talks with the Swedish forward about signing a new contract.

It’s a similar story for Guimaraes after Football Insider revealed St James’ Park chiefs are adamant the Brazilian midfielder will remain on Tyneside despite his contract including a clause allowing him to move for £100million before 30 June.

Wyness believes it could be difficult for Newcastle to create an auction if they are forced to sell both stars due to the number of clubs concerned about the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “If we’re looking at their two top players, the likes of Isak and Guimaraes, of course there is going to be interest in those sorts of players.

“It’s a very strange transfer market that’s already developing. From what I’m hearing from all of my sources, it’s very much a buyers’ market.

“There are a lot of clubs looking over their shoulders at PSR and different things like that.

“There are a lot of clubs and players that may be looking for a move as well, but there are limited buyers. It’s therefore a bit easier for some of the clubs to keep some of those top names.

“While those two players have got great appeal and could certainly move to other clubs within Europe, I don’t know if the market will be there to try and create an auction to get the sort of price Newcastle would need.

“I also think those players will see that, with a stable squad next year, there could be a chance of getting back into Champions League contention as well.”
