Newcastle United side with Aston Villa ahead of critical vote - Kieran MaguireNewcastle United will side with Aston Villa and vote for new PSR changes this summer despite not competing in Europe in 2024-25.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that PiF will want to increase the allowable losses under PSR so they can compete with clubs at the top of the table.

As it stands, clubs can lose a maximum of £105million over a rolling three-year period.

Aston Villa have proposed a direct increase of the limit to £135million, while Crystal Palace have proposed that the loss limit should increase for clubs in Europe only in line with Uefa’s highest coefficient payment.

Newcastle narrowly missed out on European football for 2024-25 but Maguire still believes the Tyneside club will vote in favour of PSR changes to help their long-term plans.

There has been a transformation in terms of the investment and spending at Newcastle since their PiF takeover,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.Newcastle United side with Aston Villa ahead of critical vote - Kieran Maguire

I do think they’re one of the clubs that see the PSR limit as a target because they do have a significant financial disadvantage compared to clubs who have consistently qualified for the Champions League.
