Radio Sheffield journalist, Rob Staton, said on Twitter that the 36-year-old was Hillsborough bound as Danny Röhl looks to bolster his options between the sticks, and there is more than one reason why it makes sense for the club.

The first, of course, is that he’s an experienced shot-stopper who can bring plenty to the goalkeeping department for the campaign ahead – especially given they don’t have a non-teenage keeper signed for next season – but that’s not the only thing.

One element that might come in handy is one that may not be well known, and that’s the fact that he speaks fluent German. Hamer moved to Germany at the age of three, and can therefore offer a helping hand to boss, Danny Röhl, and Sascha Lense if they’re ever in need of some translations on the training ground.

Meanwhile, he’s also got direct links to two members of staff on Röhl’s technical staff, with the former Leicester City man having been Chris Powell’s number one at Charlton Athletic when they won the League One title in 2012 – playing over 100 games for the Owls assistant between 2011 and 2014.
