Thierry Henry reacts after seeing what Anthony Gordon did for Newcastle vs
In case you’ve forgotten or just never tire or reading it; Newcastle United hammered Paris Saint Germain 4-1 on Wednesday night.
It was a night where Newcastle in its entirety was just ‘up for it’. The fans, the players, the staff, everyone was on the same page and it was evident from the outset.
Thierry Henry has told The Rest Is Football podcast how he could sense that PSG were in for a rough night after just 30 seconds after Anthony Gordon put his stamp on the game early.
Thierry Henry couldn’t believe what he was seeing at SJP
Henry said: “I have to say I was sitting at home, I felt it from St. James’ Park, I was sitting in Paris. When Gordon made that tackle after 30 seconds, I don’t know what he did, he went to put pressure and he got up and asked everybody to stand up. They were already up.
“Oh my god, they were already up. I was like ‘oh trouble’. We all played there and when that stadium is rocking you can be in a lot of trouble.”
Thierry Henry was right, that moment set the tone for what was to come from Newcastle, the players and the crowd somehow connected, their energies shared and that’s what pushed the home side on to a famous win.
Newcastle executed the perfect game plan against PSG
Newcastle only had 27% possession according to Sky Sports, but also managed eight shots on target to PSG’s two.
The gameplan was executed perfectly. Keep Kylian Mbappe quiet, let them pass the ball around and when it comes to us, charge!
Eddie Howe masterminded one of the best games in Newcastle’s history and when a player like Thierry Henry sits back and admires it, you know you’ve done a good job.
