Newcastle makes a £16 million offer for Burnley’s goalkeeper, who is also being pursued by Chelsea and Liverpool, but the deal is still standing.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also shown interest in the goalkeeper as they look to provide competition to their current coterie of keepers and build up towards the future. At St. James’ Park, it is said that Eddie Howe is a big fan of the keeper, who made 28 Premier League appearances for Burnley last season.

Newcastle had earlier shown interest in Arsenal and England star Aaron Ramsdale and were close to submitting a bid for the 26-year-old. However, Arsenal’s high valuation of the keeper put the Magpies off, and they have now switched targets to Trafford.

WHAT NEXT FOR TRAFFORD?

Newcastle can close the deal quickly and not wait for the completion of the Euros with Trafford not making the final cut in Gareth Southgate’s squad despite having been on the 33-man preliminary list.
