As expected, the Atlanta Braves have selected the contract of pitching prospect Huston Waldrep. Atlanta transferred Ronald Acuña Jr. to the 60-day injured list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Daysbel Hernandez was optioned back to Gwinnett to create space on the active roster.
Waldrep was Atlanta’s No. 2 prospect in Battery Power’s preseason prospect rankings. He advanced four levels last season after the Braves drafted him with the 24th pick out of Florida. He began the 2024 season back at Double A and overcame some early struggles to post a 2.92 ERA and a 3.07 FIP in 49 1⁄3 innings. Waldrep was promoted to Triple A last week and posted a season-high 11 strikeouts while allowing three runs over six innings in his debut.
Hernandez was added to the roster prior to Saturday’s game after Jimmy Hegret was placed on the injured list. He allowed a hit, a walk and struck out two in a scoreless appearance in Saturday’s loss. Hernandez has made three appearances for the Braves this season allowing four hits and an unearned run over three innings of work.
