Jacob deGrom is on his way back from the IL. If things continue to progress, he is expected to throw on the mound in about a week. This is certainly good news for the Texas Rangers.Jacob deGrom: "Shorter hair will speed up my delivery" - NBC Sports

Two-Time Cy Young Winner Is Getting Close To Return

Status Update With Jacob DeGrom

DeGrom, struck by an elbow injury and recovering from his second Tommy John, is targeting to get in for a bullpen session this month. It could even be during the Rangers next homestand. If recovery goes in the right direction, he could return as soon as August. It is pending that he doesn’t undergo any setbacks in his recovery process. While his return appears optimistic, you must wonder about one thing. Is it a good idea to pitch right away and pitch in high-leverage spots once he returns?Jacob deGrom: "Shorter hair will speed up my delivery" - NBC Sports

The last thing an organization and manager of a team wants is to rush a player’s return and have them face setbacks and get injured again. DeGrom will be throwing his first bullpen session since last June’s Tommy John surgery. His surgery occurred during the Rangers June 17-23 homestand last season. The Rangers will need him to make the playoffs and try to repeat as champions. Texas is currently second in the AL West and are five games behind the Seattle Mariners. But the team could certainly use him and many other injured players that they are waiting to return. The injuries this year have been insane. Aside from DeGrom, Evan Carter, Corey Seager, Max Scherzer, Tyler Mahle, and Josh Sborz are also waiting to get back into health.Jacob deGrom: "Shorter hair will speed up my delivery" - NBC Sports

DeGrom has participated in flat ground throwing and an organized, mitigated timeline as he moves forward with his rehab following his second Tommy John. The RHP has accomplished all the required stakes in his recovery process, but he still has some work ahead of him before he makes his official return. An August return is looking promising, but nothing has been guaranteed yet.
