Ange Postecoglou gives Rodrigo Bentancur injury update as Tottenham star nears return
Tottenham injury news – Ange Postecoglou has given an update on the fitness of Rodrigo Bentancur following his lengthy injury concerns.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has given a positive update on the fitness of midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, claiming the player is “buzzing” to be back around training. It comes as the Uruguayan international recovers from a serious knee injury that has kept him out of action since February.
The 26-year-old has stepped up to be a key star among the ranks at Spurs, joining the club in January 2022 from Italian side Juventus. The move itself only cost £ 15 million, with the possibility of a few add-ons that may raise it towards £ 21 million, which could be viewed as a bargain.
At the start of last season. the midfielder found himself on the score sheet on a regular basi despite not being a natural goal scorer in his career up to that point. Then, in February, disaster struck as Bentancur ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, which can keep players out anywhere between nine months and a year.
It comes as little surprise that following his major injury, results started to turn and Spurs slipped into a difficult run of games until the end of the campaign. With the injury issues still about, the key man has missed the early weeks of the Postecoglou revolution, perhaps adding further excitement at the thought of him in the system.
There was further positive news as Bentancur was pictured in training on Thursday afternoon, though he was back doing some light work before returning for further rehabilitation. It’s a big step though and one that the manager has taken as a positive for the coming weeks.
Postecoglou told the media: “Rehab it is the toughest bit. Talk to any player, it is not just the work but the solitary element of it. He was buzzing yesterday but it is good. Fair to say he has a fair bit of work to do and great to have him involved. He was dejected of course when we had to pull him out of it after half an hour.”
There will be many that are hopeful for a speedy return, however with such a major injury, there may still be a long path ahead, but the end is in sight.
