Coventry City’s Mark Robins has been likened to legendary Leeds United boss Howard Wilkinson. That’s the verdict of former Sky Blues manager Gordon Strachan, who says it was a “body blow” for him and his family when the club lost out to Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final in April.
Strachan, of course, is a one time star of Old Trafford from his illustrious playing days under Sir Alex Ferguson, but it is another of his former managers whom he believes Robins – also an ex-Red Devil – takes after in terms of the way he goes about his business with a relatively low profile.
Asked if he feels the Sky Blues are at their best point since he joined the club as player and then manager back in the mid 1990s Premier League days, Strachan said: “Yeah. The manager is up there with the best. I mean, he was in the second division playing in different stadiums and all the rest of it and plugging away, plugging away to get to the point where it’s 3-3 against Man Utd (in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley).
“And they were within two centimetres of getting to the final you know, and it’s a body blow for me because a lot of my relatives, grandchildren, daughters in law, they’re all season ticket holders at Coventry. They’ve done great. The club’s done great. There’s full houses now at the stadium. It’s just fantastic.”
Speaking to cryptopoker.ltd, the 67-year-old continued: “It’s taken them a long time to get back to filling stadiums, which is great. But I think Mark Robins needs to work at his PR, but he can’t do it. That’s the way he’s always been, because I see a lot of managers who have 10 games at the top and do well and they’ve become top managers, legends.
