West Ham have been handed a massive boost in their bid to sign a highly rated, young striker following a rejected bid.

It’s no secret that West Ham have needed to sign a striker for a while now. Their previous attempts in Haller, Scamacca and Ings have all been unsuccessful. Simply put, this has to be the window they bring in a replacement for Michail Antonio or it could be disastrous.

Fortunately, the club are believed to be looking at a number of options and it should come as no surprise that some of them come from Julen Lopetegui’s home country of Spain.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Hammers have actually made formal offers for at least one striker in Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion, who had an impressive debut season on loan to Alaves where he scored 8 goals and assisted a further 1.

Atletico have reportedly rejected a bid worth €35 million and are holding out for more. With other clubs interested in his services, they may be hoping for a bidding war.

What’s extremely interesting is that the 20-year-old has actually announced that he has dropped his agent, perhaps suggesting that he is eager on a move away from the Spanish capital. “I want to share an important decision,” Samu explained, “since May 29, I’ve decided to part company with my agent due to different views”.

“My career will now be in the hands of a person who’s close to my family. I’m excited for what’s coming next!”

Although he’s extremely raw, to score 8 goals in your debut season at an extremely good level shows he has bags of potential. If he can build upon that in the Premier League then the Hammers could have a gem on their hands. Hopefully they don’t miss out on him and go on to live to regret the decision.
