The Crystal Palace defender made his tournament debut for the Three Lions in England’s win over Serbia at Euro 2024. The Chelsea academy product helped his side to a clean sheet in just his 12th cap after Harry Maguire failed to make the squad for the tournament.

Guehi has often drawn admirers and that is no different this summer after helping the Eagles to a top half finish under Oliver Glasner. Newcastle have been among the names linked to a move for the 23-year-old, in addition to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Gordon, who has previously played with Guehi for England’s Under-21 side, could not speak highly enough of the Palace star. He reckons Newcastle, who have already landed Lloyd Kelly this summer but missed out on Tosin Adarabioyo, would be improved by Guehi’s arrival.

“He is top,” Gordon told TalkSport. “He’s such a good player. I was glad the nation got to see him shine on that stage because he is such a lovely guy, and he deserves what is coming to him.Anthony Gordon of England during the UEFA EURO 2024 group stage match between Serbia and England

“I thought he was unbelievable in that game, considering his height compared to the strikers they had on. He won every header, he was aggressive, intercepting loads, and his main strength is his composure on the ball, he’s like a midfielder, so him and Stones at the back is a great partnership

“I haven’t seen the Newcastle links, but it goes without saying I would love him to come, as I think he’s a top, top player and he would make us a better team.”
