Coventry City have announced the permanent signing of defender Luis Binks from Bologna for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance. The 22-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Sky Blues.
Binks spent a successful 2023/24 season on loan at Coventry, making 28 appearances in all competitions and helping the team reach the FA Cup Semi-Final.
Manager Mark Robins expressed his satisfaction with the signing: “We’re very pleased to welcome Luis back to the club, this time permanently. Luis impressed us with his ability and versatility last season while on loan with us, and he is a positive presence to have around the club.”
Robins added, “He is an accomplished defender who is good on the ball and has an experience and maturity that belies his years. We are delighted to have the opportunity to continue to work with him as he continues his development with us.”
Binks began his career in the Tottenham Hotspur Academy, playing extensively for their Under-18 and Under-21 teams. He signed his first professional contract with Montreal Impact in the MLS in February 2020, where he made 25 appearances before transferring to Bologna in August 2020.
The central defender made his Serie A debut for Bologna in September 2021, accumulating 15 appearances. He also enjoyed a 34-game loan spell at Serie B side Como during the 2022/23 season.
Born in Gillingham, Binks has represented England up to the Under-19 level and is eligible to play for Scotland, having been called up at Under-16 and Under-18 age groups.
