Leeds United’s chances of signing Joe Rodon appear slim already due to the Premier League interest from Leicester City and others, but the Foxes appointing Steve Cooper is a big blow.
The Whites will have had to curb their potentially ambitious transfer plans after losing out on promotion to the Premier League last month.
One of the key transfers that now looks far less likely is re-signing Joe Rodon on permanent terms after his loan spell.
Rubbing salt in the wounds after pipping Leeds to the Premier League, all three promoted clubs are claimed to be in the running to sign the Wales defender permanently.
According to Football.London, Leeds are in the race, but are likely to see their attempts topped by those who beat the Whites to the top flight in 23/24.
The Spurs defender is surplus to requirements under Ange Postecoglou, and represents a solid fee for Daniel Levy after barely playing since joining in 2020.
A further blow for Leeds comes in the fact now that, on top of the Foxes already admiring the Welshman, their new imminent managerial appointment does too.
Fellow Welshman Steve Cooper is expected to be announced as Leicester’s Enzo Maresca replacement this month – per John Percy.
Cooper has managed Rodon before, when both were at Swansea City in 2019/20, where he had this to say about the defender (via Wales Online):
If it was already looking unlikely that Rodon would join Leeds over Premier League clubs, Cooper being at the helm at Leicester makes matters worse.
