Everton youth prospect Aaron Apia has signed a contract with Newcastle United after leaving Everton, according to The Secret Scout.
The reputable source reported via Twitter on Sunday (23 June) that the 16-year-old centre-back, who has represented the Poland national team, has joined the Magpies as the club’s academy continues to grow.
It is understood, as per Newcastle World, that Apia was recently on trial at St James’ Park, appearing as a substitute in Under-18s matches against Leeds United and Wolves.
Everton lose another youth prospect as Newcastle United strike deal with Aaron Apia
Some Evertonians might be concerned by the calibre of youth prospects being allowed to leave the club, and rightly so, with Apia just the latest to depart.
Few of the talents at Finch Farm have been able to make a breakthrough into Sean Dyche’s senior team over the past two seasons, which could be why Apia has chosen to make the switch to Newcastle.
The club also look to be losing Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa, and while that may strictly be for PSR purposes, they are still losing a homegrown talent.
The striker is set to join the Villans, with Tim Iroegbunam having already come the other way and put pen to paper on a deal at Goodison Park.
