West Ham are interested in signing Newcastle star Callum Wilson with the striker’s price tag being set at over £10million, according to the Daily Mirror.Callum Wilson

Writing in their print edition on 25 June (page 54), the newspaper added that Wilson is not only being pursued by the Hammers but also by two Saudi clubs, including Al-Ahli.

However, despite the competition, West Ham are keen to bring in the 32-year-old who scored nine goals in 20 Premier League appearances last season.

West Ham United to seal Callum Wilson transfer

West Ham’s interest in Wilson raises an important question: is he a good fit for the Hammers?

Despite his age, the striker is capable of running with the ball and moving his team up the field, which is something that could benefit the Hammers under Julien Lopetegui.

Wilson’s 2023-24 season stats are also somewhat impressive, with the 32-year-old scoring nine goals in 20 Premier League appearances. Statistically, this means he managed a goal every 2.2 matches.

If Wilson manages to keep this form up at West Ham, this could improve the Hammers’ attack, giving them an extra dimension as they compete for a place in the top half of the table.Callum Wilson

On top of that, Wilson has plenty of Premier League experience with his strengths lying in finishing, long shots, and headers.

On the other hand, Lopetegui favours a possession-based style of football, which could present challenges.

Wilson’s weaknesses in holding onto the ball and passing might not sync seamlessly with Lopetegui’s tactics.

Furthermore, his minimal defensive contribution might be a concern in a system that requires forwards to press and trackback.
