Matty Godden’s Coventry City future could be decided this week with reports that the club are ready to sell the striker to the “highest bidder.”
That’s according to The Sun’s transfer specialist Alan Nixon, who claims Oxford United, who are newly promoted to the Championship, have joined League One Charlton Athletic in being keen on signing the 32-year-old former Peterborough United goal scorer.
Godden slipped down the pecking order with the Sky Blues last season after last summer signings Ellis Simms and Haji Wright hit form, both ending the season on 19 goals apiece. With increasingly limited game time, Godden is understood to have become frustrated and is now keen for more guaranteed first team action.
Charlton were reported to be interested in early May but the link had gone quiet until this weekend when Nixon claimed on his Patreon platform: “Coventry City will sell striker Matt Godden to the highest bidder this week – with Oxford and Charlton in.
“Godden is likely to lose his place in Mark Robins’s squad next season and is keen for first team football. Oxford have an interest as they stay up a level but Charlton have cash and ambition and may yet outbid them.”
CoventryLive understands that City would be open to letting Godden go for a fee, enabling Mark Robins to free up wages for a younger alternative to come in to compete up front.
