Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced the signing of unrestricted free agent forward Max Jones to a two-year, $2 million contract Monday. Jones scored five goals with ten assists and a minus-6 this season with the Anaheim Ducks. The 6-foot-3, 216-pound left-wing adds size and snarl to the Bruins lineup, a trend that seems to be present with the signing of defenseman Nikita Zadorov as well.
Jones, 26, was a first-round draft pick by Anaheim in 2016, 24th overall, and has played the last six seasons with the Ducks. In his career, the Rochester, Michigan native has scored 31 goals with 31 assists in 258 regular season games with 211 penalty minutes. Jones has yet to play a postseason game. This season, Jones dished out 127 hits in 12:03 of average time on ice.
Jones is known for his hard-hitting, physical style and is not afraid to cross the line at times. With the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, Jones once served a 12-game suspension for a hit to the head. The Bruins also added size and toughness in the Linus Ullmark trade by acquiring bottom-six center Mark Kastelic from the Ottawa Senators. Jones, Kastelic, and John Beecher could form a fast, hard-hitting trio on the fourth line for Boston during the 2024-25 season
