Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes could leave the Stadio Olimpico for the second time after emerging as a potential transfer target for Barcelona. According to recent reports in Spain, Los Blaugranas could pursue a deal for the Argentina international, knowing he might be available for a cut-price fee
Paredes has less than 12 months left to run on his contract at Roma. He returned to the club last summer from Paris Saint-Germain. Though he was Jose Mourinho’s wish, the Portuguese’s successor, Daniele De Rossi, continued to trust the 30-year-old toward the end of the 2023/24 season.
He made 34 Serie A appearances for Roma last term. He added another 13 in the Europa League as the Giallorossi reached the sem-finals, where Bayer Leverkusen got the better of them. With five goals and seven assists across all competitions, Parades was Roma’s most industrious midfielder.
But as Roma brought him back on a free transfer, they may consider cutting him loose for a profit this summer. New Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is in the market for a new midfielder, and he could set his sights on Paredes if an opportunity presents itself.
The Roma star is currently away on international duty with Argentina. Lionel Scaloni’s side steamrolled to a top-table finish in their 2024 Copa America group without conceding a goal.
Their title defense continues with a relatively straightforward quarter-final tie against Ecuador in Houston, Texas. Paredes was an always-present figure in the group stages. He’ll likely retain his place in the starting XI in the knockouts before returning to Roma to discuss his future.
