Maximiliano AraujoNottingham Forest are said to have expressed an interest in Uruguay international Maxi Araujo.

The versatile winger has caught the eye for his country at this summer’s Copa America. His impressive form has seemingly put a number of clubs on red alert.

Araujo reportedly has a 20 million euros (£17m) release clause in his contract with Toluca. Reports suggest the expectation is it will not be long before someone triggers it, with the Reds likely to face a fight for his signature.

According to Spanish media outlet AS, Forest and Aston Villa have “begun the first contacts” with the 24-year-old’s Mexican club. No firm offers are said to have arrived yet, but it is expected it “will not take long” before they do so.Maximiliano Araujo

Some of the Premier League’s “Big Six” are also said to be keeping tabs on him, as are Barcelona. AS report Toluca will not accept less than the value of the player’s release clause and “negotiations are expected to be tough”.

Left-footed Araujo can operate at left-back and in central midfield, as well as on the wing. He has notched up two goals and an assist for Uruguay at this year’s Copa America ahead of their quarter-final clash with Brazil this weekend.
