Brighton owner Tony Bloom has taken an apparent swipe at Everton and other clubs for skirting spending regulations as he urged them to stop.Everton badge and Goodison Park

Following the Toffees’ deduction of eight points and Nottingham Forest’s four last season for breaking profit and sustainability rules (PSR), Bloom stressed the importance of playing by the rules.

In an interview with BBC Sport [4 July], he expressed discomfort with the Premier League’s predicament but acknowledged the need to enforce regulations.

Bloom said: “I don’t like the idea of clubs having points deducted in the middle of the season. However, if rules have been broken the Premier League has to apply the rules.

“It would be much better if clubs didn’t put the Premier League in the situation where points deductions are necessary.”

Have Everton done enough to comply with Premier League spending rules?

Following a strategic overhaul that included the early summer sales of Ben Godfrey and Lewis Dobbin, Everton aimed to secure compliance with PSR for the first time in three years, potentially avoiding a third points deduction.
