Were Manchester United Wrong To Let Anthony Elanga Go?Anthony Elanga has been told he would ‘blossom’ at Newcastle United after The Magpies interest in the Nottingham Forest winger was revealed.

With United looking to work out deals to avoid a penalty for falling foul of Profit and Sustainability Rules, Elanga was linked with a potential move to St James’ Park with Elliot Anderson heading the other way.

As it played out, Anderson was sold to Forest for £35 million with goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos heading the other way. However, it is understood that Newcastle still hold an interest in Elanga who played 36 times for Forest in the Premier League last season scoring five goals and creating a further nine.

The Swedish international only moved to The City Ground from Man United last summer at a price of £15 million but so impressive was his debut season that top teams are circling.

Speaking on The Everything is Black and White Podcast, John Gibson revealed Elanga sits top of his summer shopping list.

“The right-wing is the number one position for me but it’s not alone. I would want the centre half as well, but it’s the number one position we need to improve upon. Were Manchester United Wrong To Let Anthony Elanga Go?

“I would love Elanga from Nottingham Forest and if he does come here, I think he’ll send a postcard to Dan Burn thanking Dan for his help and the transfer by the way he played against us when Forest were up here.

“Elanga has got a very, very good pedigree with Man United. He’s quick and we are quick on the counter and we’re quick up front, and he would blossom even more at a club like Newcastle, a front-foot team that’s going places, then he has at Nottingham Forest where he’s looked the part.”

“We need an upgrade on Miguel Almiron – thank you for all you’ve done for us and you have been a good servant initially in dire times – you’ve done us proud from that point. Were Manchester United Wrong To Let Anthony Elanga Go?

“You’ve never sold this short on on willingness and attitude and to do well for yourself and for the club but we definitely need an upgrade on Miggy if we’re going to shoot to be a top four or five side this season and perhaps win some silverware.”
