Houssem Aouar’s underwhelming season-long stint at Roma could soon come to an unceremonious end, with the Giallorossi looking to offload the Algerian flop. According to Corriere dello Sport, the Italians are on the verge of selling their underachieving midfielder to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad.

Roma signed Aouar on a Bosman deal last summer after his contract at Olympique Lyon expired. Previously linked with numerous top European clubs, the 26-year-old joined the former Europa Conference League winners as an elite playmaker. But nothing has gone his way at the Stadio Olimpico.

Recurring injury problems and a lack of form saw Aouar make only 16 Serie A appearances last term. Despite scoring four times, he only made nine league starts, failing to convince the club to hand him another chance. The transfer is imminent, with the new promised land waiting in the wings.

Al-Ittihad and Roma are on the cusp of agreeing on a €15 million transfer fee. Per the Corriere dello Sport report, the deal could go through within 48-72 hours. Roma’s decision to cut Aouar loose comes less than 24 hours after completing the signing of Enzo Le Fee from Rennes for €25m.

Despite Aouar’s dismal time at Roma, Aouar has drawn interest from several other clubs. In addition to Al-Ittihad, Ligue 1 side OGC Nice and Qatar Stars League giants Al-Sadd have displayed their interest in the versatile midfielder. But he’ll continue his career in Saudi Arabia.

It’s a decent deal for Roma, considering they landed Aouar without spending a dime.
