AC Milan and AS Roma have been at the bargaining table this week for a transfer involving striker Tammy Abraham, who was one of the best marksmen in Serie A during the 2021/22 campaign when he found the back of the net 17 times in league play.

Abraham has faded since due to an ACL tear, and, in the previous two seasons, Roma brought in established Serie A strikers Andrea Belotti and Romelu Lukaku – albeit to poor effect.

This summer, Milan are in the market for a striker, and although they are closing in on Alvaro Morata after the Euro 2024 Final between Spain and England, they still want a better backup than Luka Jovic.

Niclas Fullkrug is the favored signing to join Morata, but ex-Chelsea product Abraham is still very much on Milan’s wishlist. Milan have already tried to include Luka Jovic in a deal for Abraham, but Roma are so far uninterested in the former Real Madrid and Fiorentina flop.

Now, according to Calciomercato.com’s Daniele Longo, Milan are exploring further players they could use in a swap deal with Roma to reduce the fee to acquire Abraham.

Alexis Saelemaekers, a versatile player who spent the last season with the highly successful Bologna project under Thiago Motta, is currently the favored trade piece Milan will dangle to Roma for Abraham.

But Milan are also willing to discuss the futures of touted prospects Daniel Maldini and Lorenzo Colombo, though, surely, Milan supporters would not want to lose either young player to a Serie A Champions League rival permanently.

On the other side of the coin, Roma are reportedly looking at their own favored target from Milan, and that is 2023 summer signing Noah Okafor, a young forward who has flashed serious potential at the Champions League level.

It is very likely Milan and Roma will engage in a swap deal, and unless if Dortmund are surprisingly willing to sell Fullkrug after his important 2023/24 season for their Champions League Final appearance, then Abraham is likely to move to Milan.
