Former Coventry City defender Jordan Wills has signed for Northampton Town on a free transfer.

Willis was a free agent, having been without a club since leaving Wycombe Wanderers at the end of last season. He has joined League One side Northampton on a short-term deal until January.

The 29-year-old centre-back started his career at Coventry and made more than 200 appearances for the Sky Blues over eight years before leaving the club in the summer of 2019. He went on to join Sunderland, where he spent three years and made 60 appearances.

A move to Wycombe followed at the end of the 2023 January transfer window. Willis played nine times for the Chairboys before parting ways in the summer.Jordan Willis: Wycombe sign former Coventry City and Sunderland defender - BBC Sport

“We are delighted to welcome Jordan to the club,” said Northampton manager Jon Brady. “He is a defender with a huge amount of experience, particularly of playing in League One and we feel he will help add depth to the squad in a key position.

“He has been training with us for a few weeks so we have had the chance to have a good look at him and to see how he fits in, so we know he is ready to go and we believe he will be a good addition.

“We believe Jordan’s experience and pedigree will be a big asset to us ahead of a busy period in the season and we are pleased to add him to the squad.”

Willis went straight into the Northampton squad this weekend. He was an unused substitute as the Cobblers lost 1-0 at Shrewsbury Town, Dan Udoh scoring a late winner for the home side
