The Atlanta Braves got their guy in the first round in Cam Caminiti, and despite the widely-held belief being that he would take an over-slot signing bonus, according to Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline he is coming in right at the slot value, leaving money for the Braves to go after some major prep talent from later rounds.
Caminiti is the Braves gem in this draft, the top prep arm in the 2024 MLB draft which no one expected to be available to Atlanta at 24. The Braves swept in to nab the LSU commit, and while it was certainly going to be an expensive move it is a relative bargain given his talent. Caminiti is just 17 years old as he reclassified from the 2025 class in order to start his professional career early, and enters as one of the top prospects in Atlanta’s system immediately. Caminiti’s fastball is already up to 97 mph, with many believing he could add more velocity, and his changeup is advanced for a player his age. The main concern for Caminiti has been his feel for spin, and while his slider and curveball did take steps forward this season it will still be a work in progress for the Braves strong pitching development.
You can find more information in our signing tracker here, but the Braves currently have nearly $1.2 million left to spend. A large chunk of that is expected to go to sign 6th-round pick Nick Montgomery, who will command a significant overslot bonus, with the remainder likely being used to try to sign away 12th round pick Cayman Goode and 20th round pick Eric Hartman from Division-I commitments.
