When we last left off, the Dodgers avoided a sense of creeping dread of getting thumped by an inferior team by dispatching the hapless Chicago White Sox. We all bonded over shenanigans involving a milkshake and everyone generally had a good time.

No way that fear would be realized in this series, right? Right?!?

As we close out the first half of the 2024 regular season, the long-awaited trip to Detroit finally arrived. I had never been to Michigan, much less Detroit. As a casual Colorado Avalanche fan of the early 2000s, I had a natural inclination to dislike the city if not for certain pop culture references about the importance of having a competent police officer’s union. But I had seen photographs of Comerica Park, so I was eager to see what the fuss was about.

Honestly, the experience of going to Comerica Park is less than the sum of its parts. You have a stadium that is relatively new, relatively walkable, with wide concourses and distinct iconography, and yet, enough corners are cut to make the experience less than what it should be.

Unlike Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, which I described as stale, room-temperature water, Comerica Park can be described as cold flat pop. It looks inviting, but as soon as you take a sip, you realize something is amiss

However, what Comerica Park does get right, it gets right. While the tour of the park was what you would expect for $20, signing up for another all-you-can-eat buffet in an air-conditioned room during a muggy afternoon is not a terrible idea.
