Leicester City’s transfer business will determine the short-term futures of hot prospects Michael Golding and Will Alves.
The teenage pair are being tipped for bright careers in the game, but could have roles to play at City as early as this coming season. The big factor in their immediate futures will be the business the club do before the end of the transfer window.
Manager Steve Cooper has been open in his desire for new recruits in attacking midfield, calling for a replacement for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. City have been linked with a number of players for the role, most recently including Celtic star Reo Hatate.
But if City can’t do the deals they want, Cooper could place his faith in Golding and Alves. That’s in spite of the pair having never made a senior league appearance between them.
The duo were the only young players left in the City squad for the friendly against Palermo last Friday, and they were given a few minutes on the pitch. But fans had been hoping for more after both impressed in half-hour cameos against Shrewsbury last week.
Speaking on Alves after the loss to Palermo, Cooper said: “He’s a really good young player, and we’re enjoying working with him every day. He’s got a really nice appetite to train and get better. Young players need a strong development programme and what that looks like will be down to what’s right for the individual.
