VILLA PARK SET TO LOOSE SENSATIONAL STAR TO RIVAL CLUB AS NEGOTIATION STALL…
Tottenham have a new technical director as former Aston Villa and Copenhagen chief Johan Lange joins the new evolution in north London. Lange, a relatively unknown figure in a world dominated by big name transfer gurus and out of depth executives sanctioning deals, comes in with a mixed history.
He will now be tasked with filling the void left by Fabio Paratici after the former Juventus sporting director left the club earlier this year following a lengthy ban imposed by FIFA. Since the Italian left change has ensued on great levels at Spurs with Antonio Conte also departing.
As well as the two Italian characters there is a new chief executive acting under chairman Daniel Levy. Scott Munn, a fellow Australian for Ange Postecoglou to work with, started his role last month having been at the City Football Group previously.
Lange is now a key figure in a new look Spurs structure which is aiming to take advantage of the positive start made by Postecoglou that has seen Tottenham move to the top of the Premier League, going unbeaten in the opening eight games of the season. It has been a step made ahead of plan in reality with the new head coach able to quickly foster an atmosphere change and get across his on-field principles.
Lange started his career with Copenhagen and had been with them for 10 years with a stint as Wolves assistant manager in there as well. He has worked in a number of different roles but ended as global director of football development and international academies after former Sevilla sporting director Monchi arrived at Aston Villa earlier this year.
Ollie Watkins
Villa’s best player since their last promotion to the top flight, Lange swooped in to sign Watkins in September 2020 from Brentford and has already scored more than 50 goals for the club. Watkins has promised to be on the move to a side competing in the Champions League for a while and Spurs might be the perfect fit.
With Richarlison failing to find his scoring boots and Son Heung-min still arguably a better player from wide, Spurs may well need to be on the look out for their next striker. Alejo Veliz is young and unproven, Brennan Johnson in the same camp and also capable of coming from the right. When it comes to Premier League proven strikers outside the traditional top six, Watkins is about as good as it gets.. Lange has already signed him once, why not again?
Moussa Diaby
Okay, a slightly optimistic one, but the new signing over the summer already looks a player of real quality. There’s a reason he’d long been linked with a move to Chelsea a
